Yard Rules

General

A horse boxThe Yard will be available for owners to access the facilities from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm. Staff will be available for assistance between the hours of 8:00 am to 5:30 pm. Monday to Sunday.

  • Where possible a minimum of 24 hours notice is required if Owners wish to vary the arrangements for their horses in respect of feed, exercise and turnout etc. However the Yard will try to accommodate short notice requests subject to staffing availability.
  • Any injuries, accidents or damage must be reported to the Yard Manager
  • No riding whatsoever without hard hat to standard PAS 015 or BS EN 1384 and suitable footwear with a flat sole and small heel.
  • All horses must be vaccinated against equine flu and tetanus.
  • No smoking is permitted anywhere on the Yard premises
  • All vehicles are to be parked in designated parking areas
  • As a best practice any owner/rider hacking out alone should advise a member of staff of their proposed route and expected duration of ride. In addition the carrying of a mobile phone is recommended.
  • Feeding must be carried out in stables; Horses must not be fed on the Yard.
  • We will endeavour to keep the yard clean and tidy. To help the staff achieve this aim, owners/riders are requested to clear up droppings/hair on the hard standing after they have finished grooming etc.
  • Should owners/riders skip out in addition to the duties performed by the Yard staff, please empty skips into the yard muck trailer.
  • Yard and field keys will remain the property of the Yard; lost keys will be replaced and charged to the owner at published prices.
  • Extras, that is services or bedding/feed should be recorded in the ‘day book’ and will be charged to the Owner in arrears with invoices issued at the end of each Month.

Use of the All-Weather School

  • The school is available for use between the hours of 6:30 am and 9:00 pm through out the year and will be limited to a maximum of 45 mins per session.
  • The school is available for use without charge. Booking in advance is required using the book provided.
  • No more than 2 horses at a time on lunge reins exercise are allowed.
  • No more than 1 horse on lunge reins exercise and 1 horse on ridden exercise at any one time.
  • Subject to agreement by the owners/riders no more than 3 horses at a time on ridden exercise are allowed.
  • Jumps/trotting poles may be erected for lessons/exercise but must be removed at the end of the individual session.
  • Any droppings left by horses using the school are to be removed at the end of each individual session by the Owner/Rider and placed in the utensil provided. (Droppings significantly reduce the life time of the school surface)
  • During lessons the school may not be shared unless express agreement has been given by the individual giving instruction, this should be recorded in the school booking book.
  • Owners and riders with the express permission of the owner are allowed to have private tuition at the Yard.

Turnout

Unless horses are being/have been ridden or being prepared for/returning from or away at competitions etc the following ‘rules of thumb’ will apply:

  • Summer day turnout  -  Turned out by 9:00 am and brought in by 5:30pm
  • Summer night turnout – Turned out by 9:00pm or before sunset if earlier and brought in by 9:00am
  • Winter Turnout -  Turned out by 9:00 am and brought in by 5:30pm or before sunset if earlier
  • Reduced hours Winter Turnout – Max of five hours turnout – with turnout by 9:00 and brought in no later than 2.00pm
  • It is not recommended that owners turn out or bring in other than in daylight hours and staff will only turn out and bring in during daylight hours.
  • Unless expressly agreed by the Owner no horse will be left alone in a paddock.
  • The Yard reserves the right in consultation with owners to plan and manage herd size and composition together with paddock allocation governed by paddock condition and commensurate rest rotation.
  • Geldings and Mares will be maintained in single sex herds.
  • We recommend that fluorescent tabards or jackets are worn whilst turning out, these are mandatory for staff during the Winter Months from October through to April.
